"Not only did the students love the program, they have already asked me to bring it back, but they learned about this misunderstood creatures, about themselves and experiences something many of them felt they never could. I could not ask for anything more from a show/performance"

Snakes Alive!!™ with Tom Kessenich

An Amazing Live Reptile and Amphibian Program

My name is Tom Kessenich, I am a native Wisconsin Herpetologist. I have been involved with reptiles for over 35 years presenting programs to various organizations including schools, civic special interest groups and colleges and universities and have spent countless hours in the field both researching and admiring reptiles.

I was Head zookeeper at the renowned Serpent Safari Reptile Zoo and I also maintain a private collection. I love animals and feel each one has a purpose. Reptiles are a very misunderstood group in the animal kingdom. Snakes, in particular, instill fear in most people. However, public attitudes are slowly changing. People are beginning to see snakes not only as fascinating, but also as important and valuable. The fear of snakes is learned behavior and has been exaggerated by such things as misrepresentation and myths.

My goals are to help educate the public and provide services so man and animal can live in harmony. Reptiles are a good indicator on the condition of the environment. When the environment is no longer suitable for them, it will no longer be suitable for us; for all parts of nature are interconnected.

Programs

Snakes Alive!! offers formal lecture programs for all ages, roving shows and multi-cage displays. It’s a hands-on program where participants are encouraged to handle the animals while learning how these amazing "herptile" live in their natural habitat, their care in captivity and little known bits of interesting information. The formal lecture or cage display features over a dozen animals. Programs for Biology Labs or Ecology groups are also available.
