A Tasty Spread of Foot-Stompin', Pre War Acoustic Blues

The SpYder Stompers and Sugar Pie cook up a tasty spread of foot stompin’ pre war acoustic county blues for all occasions! The string band quartet members are vocalists and multi-instrumentalists who tag team leading tunes out of music genres which were popular during the first half of the 20th century. This old music comes alive with the likes of Cousin Kevin (Kevin T. Richards) on guitar, mandolin, fiddle; Jailbreak Jack (Jack DiAlesando) guitar, harmonica; Sugar Pie (Sheela Das) ukulele, pennywhistle, washboard; and Brother Raymond (Ray Deforest) on acoustic bass. From school assemblies and libraries to outdoors concerts and festivals, the SpYder Stompers and Sugar Pie are guaranteed fun.

The band performs their own special blend of country blues and ragtime tunes showcasing early 20th century music. Pre-war country blues tunes include: Didn’t He Ramble (Charlie Poole), Ain’t Nobody’s Business (Mississippi John Hurt), Girlish Days (Memphis Minnie), Chauffeur Blues (Memphis Minnie), When the Roll is Called (Gospel), Joliet Bound (Kansas Joe), Creolle Belles One Step (Ragtime), the Kansas City Blues (Delmore Brothers), Chattanooga Choo Choo,and When the Well Runs Dry.  Old time fiddle and whistle tunes and ragtime pieces include: Old Joe Clark, Elk River Blues, Water bound, The Dallas Rag, and Buck dancer’s Choice.

 

Jack is a finger style guitar master and works as a professor of Mathematics at Kent State. Kevin plays mandolin, fiddle, and various guitar styles and is the artistic director of ROAM. Ray joined the group a decade ago and is an acoustic bass genius who performs and teaches jazz, blues, and nearly any style of music. ”These guys know what they’re doing, and they obviously enjoy playing together. Sugar Pie, Sheela Das, is a professional vocalist and instrumentalist of ukulele, guitar, penny whistle and washboard who joins the band with her sweet vocals and finesse.
